Referrals
Referrals in the sidebar lists everyone you referred: each customer whose activity the brand credited to you, newest first. Each one shows the steps they’ve taken, when they took each step, and what that customer has earned you so far.
The steps
The brand decides which steps you see, what they’re called and in what order. A software brand might show Signed up → Trial started → Subscribed → Paid. A brand that sells through a sales team might show Lead → Demo booked → Deal won → Paid.
Every customer shows the brand’s whole set of steps:
- a filled dot with a date: the customer reached that step on that day. ×2, ×3 means it happened more than once, such as a monthly payment;
- an empty dot and Not yet: they haven’t reached it;
- a struck-through step marked “reversed”: you were paid for that step, and the brand took it back, usually because the customer got a refund.
A step often earns you nothing by itself. A booked demo may pay nothing while the deal it leads to pays a commission. You still see the customer move, so you know your referral is progressing. Your program’s terms say which steps pay.
Who the customer is
Brands don’t share their customers’ details with OpenPartner, so a referral is normally shown as Referral #12. The number counts your referrals in the order they came in: #1 is your first, and each new one takes the next number. Some brands choose to show a company or customer name instead. That’s up to the brand.
Referred is the date the customer first clicked your link.
What a customer has earned you
The amount on each referral is what that customer has earned you: every commission from their activity, minus anything reversed or refunded. Bonuses and bounty rewards aren’t tied to one customer, so they’re on your Commissions page, not here. For each commission’s status (accrued, approved, paid), see Commissions.
Something looks wrong
- A customer you referred isn’t listed. A customer appears once the brand records something they did and credits it to your link. If they signed up on another device without using your link, or after the attribution window, they may not be credited to you.
- A step is missing. The brand chooses which steps you see. Some activity may be recorded without being shown.
Ask the brand’s support contact (shown at the bottom of the portal), and quote the referral number.
